Arjan Harxhi, MD, PhD is Professor of Infectious Disease and Head of the Department of Infectious Disease at the Faculty of Medicine, Medical University of Tirana, Albania and Head of the third clinic and Ambulatory HIV Clinic at Infectious Disease Service, University Hospital Center of Tirana “Mother Theresa”. He obtained his Medical Degree from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tirana where he also received his specialty in Infectious Diseases. Prof. Harxhi completed his PhD at Faculty of Medicine, University of Tirana. He undertook a mini residency training program on HIV at the University California, San Diego Medical Center and also his MSc Diploma on STI and HIV at the University College London and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London, UK. Prof. Harxhi is a member of the EACS, ESCMID, and ECEE network group. His main focus are clinical aspects, teaching and research in various areas of viral and bacterial infections, primarily HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections , viral hepatitis, antimicrobial resistance, hospital infection control etc. He is part of multidisciplinary national expert groups such as AMR national team, National Committee for Immunization, working group for the management of viral hepatitis and is an active member of the HIV/AIDS Country Coordinating Mechanism. He is co-author of National Strategy for control and prevention of HIV/AIDS in Albania, National guidelines for HIV treatment in Albania. He has published over 80 papers in national and international journals and actively participates at the national and international scientific meetings.
